Wine, table grapes to be topic of workshop
The El Dorado County Master Gardeners will offer a class on wine and table grapes from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Agriculture Extension Building, 311 Fair Lane in Placerville. Master Gardener Caroline Stromberg will discuss grape cultivation in El Dorado County. The class covers selecting, planting, supporting and harvesting grapes, as well as grape diseases and pests. Lawn care
Green Acres Nursery & Supply will offer a lawn care workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26. Green Acres employee Robert Tofft will discuss sod, re-seeding, fertilization, pre-emergence and water schedules. The nursery is located at 901 Galleria Boulevard in Roseville.
Tree pruning
A presentation on proper tree pruning, sponsored by Placer Tree Partners, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 in the Auburn Library Beecher Room. The free event is for anyone interested in improving the health and appearance of their trees.
The presentation by arborists Jean Pliska and Lani Houck will be followed by a demonstration on nearby trees, weather permitting.
Trees should be pruned for the first time two to five years after planting, then every five to seven years after. Pruning is best done from winter to early spring before new growth starts.
Home & Garden Show in Sacramento
The Sacramento Home & Garden Show will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 6 at Cal Expo.
The show will feature 700 displays including windows, doors, cabinets, floors, garden swings, imported pottery, fountains, waterwheel, ponds, countertops, outdoor kitchens, and umbrellas. General admission is $6, age 63 and older $4 and children under 12 free. Save $1 on admission by bringing a can of food for KCRA Kids Can.
Meadow Vista Garden Club to meet
The Meadow Vista Garden Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Meadow Vista on Placer Hills Road.
The next meeting is Wednesday, March 2. Sue Golden will give a workshop on water gardens. Visitors are invited to attend for the lunch and workshop.
