Auburn Arrangers Guild prepares for November floral design show

The Auburn Arrangers Guild will present its annual "all-table" floral design show and tea at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the First Congregational Church, 710 Auburn Ravine Road in Auburn.
The floral design program will feature long-time floral designer Margaret Good; a boutique selling garden-related crafts, dried plant material, jams and gift items; a raffle and door prizes.
Good joined the Nevada City Arrangers in 1970 and created entries for its flower shows. She also has submitted designs in the Nevada City Fair each year for 37 years. She has won many ribbons including 16 Best of Show and nine "Nevada City Proud Traditions" awards.
Her theme for the floral design show will be holiday decorations.
The show is open to the public. Tickets are $20 per person. For reservations, call Myrtle Findley at (530) 346-2450. Tickets won't be sold at the door.

Auburn Garden Club announces grant program
The Auburn Garden Club is offering a grants program to nonprofit/education groups in Placer County for projects the club supports. These include the following:

- Creating, promoting and furthering interest in horticulture, gardening, floral and landscape design, plant and bird life and an appreciation of the natural beauties of our area, civic beautification and roadside development.

- Assisting in projects for the conservation of natural resources.

- Cooperation with other agencies in furthering interests in educational areas.
The grants are normally in the range of $200 to $1,500. However, the grants committee will review requests for greater amounts.
Requests will be evaluated based on set criteria.

Garden Club seeks scholarship applicants
The Auburn Garden Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or a full-time college student in Placer County.
Funding for the program comes from the club's annual Spring Plant Sale, held the second Saturday in April at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Auburn.
To be eligible, the high school or college student must be a resident of Placer County. High school students who will graduate in the year the scholarship is received need at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Full-time college students with a minimum of 12 units per semester need at least a 2.3 GPA.
Students' career plans must be related to the following objectives of the Auburn Garden Club: botany, conservation, entomology, floriculture, forestry, horticultural landscape architecture/design, plant biology, plant genetics, urban planning, agriculture concerns or allied fields.
For college students, the scholarship will be awarded upon evidence of successful completion of 30 days of enrollment in at least 12 units at a four-year college or university or community college.
High school seniors or college students who have career plans in the horticultural or botanical field, are welcome to apply.

Donner Garden Club plans chrysanthemum sale
Donner Garden Club of Auburn will hold its 51st annual Chrysanthemum and Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 100 East St., in Auburn. There will be potted plants, cut flowers and arrangements for sale and a garden-related boutique.
There will be members of the garden club available to answer questions on growing, diseases and arranging.

Gardeners to discuss fall arrangements
The Meadow Vista Garden Club will meet Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Applegate Civic Center, 18014 Applegate Road in Applegate.
Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., with a meeting to follow. The club's annual fall flower arrangement talk will be given by club member Flo Monneyham.
