Jensen Custom Homes win two Street of Dreams awards
Chateau du Bois, an 18-room French-inspired estate built by Jensen Custom Homes of Auburn, captured two of four awards in balloting by visitors at the recently concluded Street of Dreams luxury home tour at DarkHorse.
The event was conducted from June 17 through July 30 at DarkHorse Golf Club, near Auburn.
Chateau du Bois captured the Best of Show and Best Architectural Design awards. Bryan Ashbaugh, Street of Dreams chief executive officer, announced the award results in an evening ceremony on July 30 at the Sutter Club in downtown Sacramento.
Wayne Jensen, who in 2001 co-founded Jensen Custom Homes with his son, Matt, said the voting-based awards validate the company's philosophy - "From your imagination comes our inspiration."
"Having our work recognized by the general public as the 'best of the best' is truly an honor, because we view the other builders who participated in the Street of Dreams as indeed among the best around," Wayne Jensen said.
Chateau du Bois pays ample tribute to its name - which means castle of wood - with inspired use of old world wide-plank walnut floors, furniture-quality cabinetry, a solid wood box-beamed ceiling in the private study and barreled ceilings of handcrafted solid alder wood beams in the grand foyer and the great room.
"Our overall goal as a company is to earn the reputation as one of the very best custom home builders in the region, and this award demonstrates that we are achieving that goal," Matt Jensen said.
Dean Stevenson of Stevenson Residential Designs in Granite Bay designed Chateau du Bois, the interior plan for which was conceived by Marci Suydam, the design principal of Suydam Design Associates of Roseville.
Furnishings were chosen by Mark Motell and Debbie Nelson-Motell of Le Petit Chateau, a retailer of elegant furnishings with showrooms in Roseville and El Dorado Hills. Burnie Lenau, president of Lawnman, Inc. of Sacramento, headed the team that designed and installed the lush landscaping for the home's wooded hilltop site.
"When we completed this home, each of us loved the final product and could imagine living in it. Many visitors who toured the home during the Street of Dreams agreed, telling us that they easily envisioned themselves living there as well," said Jon Lienert, chief financial officer and corporate secretary of Jensen Custom Homes. "That is the inspiration that drives us to design and build the high-quality homes that have become our hallmark."

Georgetown Divide photo contest underway
Thirteen winners of a photo contest will have the opportunity to display their photos on a full-color 2007 Georgetown Divide community calendar.
Patti Smith Real Estate is printing and distributing, for free, a calendar featuring 12 photos of the Divide countryside - one photo per month. The grand prize winner will have their work displayed on the calendar cover and credits will be given to all.
"We have so many wonderful places on the Divide that many people have never seen," Smith said. "Now is the chance to showcase that beautiful snowy scene off of your deck, or the University Waterfalls, or other places on the Divide you've visited this year."
From August until Oct. 2, participants can send in their favorite scenic images (no people unless it substantially contributes to the scene - e.g., a silhouette of someone against a dramatic backdrop). Wildlife imagery is also encouraged.
While no one is limited to sending just one image, Smith said, she is hopeful that so many people will contribute, that the contest will have 13 winners rather than a few people submitting and winning with several photos each.
Contest requirements are as follows:
- Send in a 4 inch by 6 inch printed copy and an electronic image (at least 300 dots per inch) on a CD to Patti Smith Real Estate Photo Contest, P.O. Box 1600, Georgetown, CA 95634.
- Please identify your subject, and provide your name, mailing address and phone number on both the back of the printed photo and on the CD label.
- Please limit your submissions to recent photographs - preferably from 2006.
- Your submission must be received no later than Monday, Oct., 2. Contest winners will be notified by mid October, and the calendar will be printed and distributed by December.
"Download those images from your digital cameras and send them in," Smith said. "We're proud of our community and ready to show it off."
